Our Zambia Program
Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa surrounded by eight other African countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west.
Zambia is one of the many African countries that have been devastated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This is especially true of the 20 to 45 age group - a segment of society that is typically the most economically productive and most involved in raising children. For this reason, HIV/AIDS has greatly damaged Zambia's economic productivity and the lives of a huge number of families.
Currently there are more than 600 000 AIDS orphans in Zambia...
The Child Care and Adoption Society of Zambia (CCASZ) is one of Zambia’s first and oldest NGO’s (founded in 1956). This organization provides services and care to vulnerable children in Lusaka, Kabwe and Ndola. They take care of children from birth to 12 years old in two homes, a total of 270 children in Lusaka, and 230 in Ndola. Since 2010 they have placed 259 children in safe and caring foster families.
The Children's Bridge Foundation has partnered with CCASZ to provide educational sponsorship. We have provided tuition fees, uniforms, educational materials and transport to school for 25 children in the two homes. We have also provided education support for 35 children in the Early Childhood Learning Centre, by equipping them with learning materials, puzzles and building blocks, small chairs and tables, books and paper.
In the coming months, we may provide funds to support the delivery of nutrition education programs for children in CCASZ care.
